#askTLY Live: What is Somatic Yoga?
Date: 18 Nov
12pm – 1pm
You might have come across the term ‘𝐬𝐨𝐦𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐜𝐬’ in the world of yoga and therapy, but what exactly is it and how is it changing the way yoga is being experienced right now?
Somatics is a way of sensing ourselves and our experiences, and encompasses "𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘴𝘵𝘶𝘥𝘺 𝘰𝘧 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘴𝘦𝘭𝘧 𝘧𝘳𝘰𝘮 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘱𝘦𝘳𝘴𝘱𝘦𝘤𝘵𝘪𝘷𝘦 𝘰𝘧 𝘰𝘯𝘦’𝘴 𝘭𝘪𝘷𝘦𝘥 𝘦𝘹𝘱𝘦𝘳𝘪𝘦𝘯𝘤𝘦, 𝘦𝘯𝘤𝘰𝘮𝘱𝘢𝘴𝘴𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘥𝘪𝘮𝘦𝘯𝘴𝘪𝘰𝘯𝘴 𝘰𝘧 𝘣𝘰𝘥𝘺, 𝘱𝘴𝘺𝘤𝘩𝘦, 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘴𝘱𝘪𝘳𝘪𝘵." On the onset, the application of somatics to the field of yoga might seem like a very natural combination, however, it does question some aspects of modern yoga practices, which tend to lean towards being functional and postural in nature, fitness-focused and alignment-driven.
Our next #askTLY session is a live conversation and short Somatic Yoga practice with our resident yoga therapist and teacher trainer, Daphne Chua, who was one of the first few teachers who started incorporating a somatic lens to her work, which includes yoga therapy, integrated bodywork and crania-sacral therapy. She specialises in helping clients manage chronic pain and holds teacher trainings and retreats globally.
We’re so glad to have her back at home in Singapore! Come join the conversation on 𝐈𝐆 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐅𝐁 𝐥𝐢𝐯𝐞 𝐧𝐞𝐱𝐭 𝗪𝐞𝐝, 𝟏𝟖 𝐍𝐨𝐯, 𝐚𝐭 𝟏𝟐𝐩𝐦!
