Are you just starting out a yoga practice? Are you looking for something more in-depth and supportive? Are you curious to move beyond the traditional class setting?   We understand that sometimes even seemingly ‘basic’ classes can be daunting for those who are new, rusty or recovering from injury or illness. This Yoga Foundations course seeks to equip you with a beginner-friendly understanding of applied anatomy and physiology, so that you can move into common postures safely and confidently. Learning simple movement mechanics and personal adaptations to suit your specific needs will allow you to fully enjoy your practice! With this in mind, expect to see familiar shapes in new ways, as we both honour a more traditional approach, and explore alternatives that mean everyone can enjoy an embodied movement practice.   Course details Day 1: Standing Postures⁣ Build strength and stability by developing a heightened awareness of stacking the joints and recruiting major muscles through the legs and core; the shapes covered on this day will explore the sense of grounding through the feet and legs.⁣ ⁣ ⁣ Day 2: Forward Folds and Backbends⁣ Come to understand the importance and relevance of a neutral spine, as well as safe flexion and extension, via active and passive forward folds and backbends. Lengthen and strengthen the posterior chain respectively in these complementary groups of postures, and learn how to approach them with awareness, support and spaciousness through the body.⁣ ⁣ ⁣ Day 3: Twists and Balancing Postures⁣ Start building onto what you already know in this session: what do standing postures feel like when we add variations such as twisting or challenging our sense of balance? When do we need to strengthen and when does it serve us better to soften? How might the breath play a helpful role in finding space in the body / ease in a more complex shape? Day 4: Weaving it All Together⁣ ⁣ We will close the course with a recap of what was introduced, a practice that integrates much of what has been covered, and time for questions / discussion of any topics of interest.
